The “Trick” Drivers Have Been Using To Skip The Line At JFK

Two hackers managed to hack the electronic taxi dispatch system at JFK. For the fee of $10, they allowed taxi drivers waiting in the holding lot to skip the queue and pick up a customer almost immediately.

This scheme was carried for over 2 years and it allowed up to 200 expedited trips a day.

While many drivers were aware of the scheme, not a-lot were willing to pay the fee. With fares to Manhattan being $52 a 20% cut is a tough pill to swallow. But with wait times averaging 3 hours, a $10 fee might be worth it.

“I’m going to be honest I’d give $10 to skip the line. I’d even given $20… I don’t blame them” - Henry Fernandez (Taxi Driver)
